Who's the Star shoots to victory in Autumn Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Who’s the Star had a fast pace to chase and was along in time to take the Grade 2 Autumn at Woodbine while not far off his own track record in the 1 1/16-mile Tapeta route.
A stretchrunner ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson, Who’s the Star saved ground until inside the quarter pole while racing at the rear of the field behind suicidal fractions set by stablemates Treason and Mighty Heart.
Treason assumed command early in the stretch before being overtaken by War Bomber, who looked on his way to victory before Who’s the Star came flying between rivals to prevail by a half-length.

Treason finished two lengths behind the winner in third, a nose in front of Novo Sol. Harlan Estate, Frosted Over, Riptide Rock, Mighty Heart, Money Printer and Artie’s Storm completed the order of finish.
The final time of 1:41.10 was .37 off the synthetic track record that Who’s the Star set on Aug. 22, when he lowered Treason’s short-lived record.
“The inside had been playing good all week, but speed started to carry a lot more (today), and I was a little bit concerned,” Wilson said. “But, on paper, there was a lot of conflicting speed as well. When they cut the half in :46 and change, my guy’s going to come running every time. He comes home fast. He came home fast today.”
Who’s the Star ($8.50) earned $105,000 of the $177,050 purse. It was his second consecutive graded stakes win on the Tapeta and the third stakes victory of the meet, making him a top contender for Canadian champion older male on the main track honors for this year.
