Churchill Downs
Who is Farrell named for?

Barbara D. Livingston Farrell breezes six furlongs in 1:13 under Channing Hill on Wednesday at Churchill Downs.
Farrell, one of the favorites for the 143rd Kentucky Oaks on Friday, could have gotten her name from most anywhere. There’s the actor (Colin Farrell), a town (Farrell, Pa.), a soccer player (Andrew Farrell), and an ice cream (Farrell’s) – and if you’re just being phonetic, there’s the comedian (Will Ferrell) and the rapper (Pharrell Williams).
But Renee Catalano, wife of trainer Wayne Catalano, said it’s not all that complicated. She said Annette Bacola, a principal in the filly’s owner-breeder, Coffeepot Stables, “just liked the named Farrell.”
“The filly’s doing super,” Wayne Catalano said Monday.
