White Chocolate eyes stakes after allowance win

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – White Chocolate is likely headed back to stakes company after a decisive 3 1/2-length victory in a first-level allowance race run at Aqueduct on Sunday.

One of three winners ridden on Sunday’s card by Romero Maragh, White Chocolate broke running from her outside draw, set some solid early fractions, and galloped home a decisive winner. She ran six furlongs in 1:10.58 and earned an 86 Beyer Speed Figure. That number equaled her career best, also earned over a sloppy track.

Sunday’s win came 20 days after White Chocolate finished second in the Cheryl White Memorial Stakes at Mahoning Valley.

“It was a little quick back, it didn’t hurt our feelings when they called for rain,” trainer Chad Summers said. “She’s an honest filly, I’m proud of the progress that she’s made. She just tries.”

Summers said he would likely nominate White Chocolate to the $150,000 Interborough on Jan. 20 at Aqueduct and the $100,000 What a Summer Stakes at Laurel Park the same day. While the What a Summer Stakes is at her preferred six-furlong distance, Summers said the Interborough may be a good chance to try her at seven furlongs to find out if she can be successful going that far.
