Whistle Stop Cafe stays perfect with All American Futurity win

Whistle Stop Cafe remained undefeated in six career starts Monday, when she hustled to a neck win over favorite Instygator in the $3 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. It was another length back in third to Apollitical Gold.
The All American closed out the meet. The Quarter Horse classic held each Labor Day was run before a limited number of people due to restrictions in New Mexico brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
Whistle Stop Cafe and her rider, Ricky Ramirez, on Monday capped a memorable Ruidoso meet. They went 4 for 4 at the meet, with their other major victory in the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity. It was the first All American win for Ramirez, who long has been a top jockey.
Blane Wood trains Whistle Stop Cafe, who gave him his second win in the All American. The filly races for Whitmire Ranch. Prior to her Ruidoso meet, she won a trial and the $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile, both this spring at Remington Park.
Whistle Stop Cafe ($9.80) on Monday broke well from post 7, veered out some in the later stages, and covered the 440 yards on a track rated fast in 21.43 seconds.
Following the race there was a stewards’ inquiry and a trainer’s claim of foul, but neither involved the winner. It concerned a tightening up of horses to Whistle Stop Cafe's inside that led to rivals being checked. Caliente Caramelo was disqualified from fifth and placed eighth, and Famous and Easy was disqualified from sixth and placed ninth.
Whistle Stop Cafe earned $1.5 million for her victory to push her career earnings to $1,974,986. She is a daughter of Freighttrain B and was bred in Texas by Bobby Cox.
The All American consolation, called the $200,000 All American Juvenile, was won by a neck by Eye Work for You ($17.80).
