Whistle Pig sneaks up the rail to score

Whistle Pig grabbed his fourth stakes victory of 2008 on Saturday after he flew up the rail in the $75,000 Yankee Affair at Philadelphia Park, catching pacesetter Night Stand in the final strides to win by a neck.

A 4-year-old gelding ridden by Edwin King Jr., Whistle Pig raced at the back of the pack as Night Stand and Power by Leigh vied for the lead through early fractions of 22.60 seconds and 44.83. Whistle Pig was boxed in for a bit on the far turn, but King found room along the rail and got up in time, stopping the clock in 1:22.80 for seven furlongs on a fast track. Joey Carson finished third, another 2 1/2 lengths behind Night Stand, in the Yankee Affair, a stakes for registered Pennsylvania-breds.

Whistle Pig paid $13.20 to win. He is trained by Andrew Carter for the HACK Stable.
