Whisper Onthe Wind, Galleon Mast resume rivalry in turf feature
A field of 12, including two runners for the main track only, was entered for Sunday’s $30,000 feature, a first-level optional $16,000 claimer for Florida-breds going 7 1/2 furlongs on turf at Gulfstream Park West.
Whisper Onthe Wind, already a five-time winner this season, will be favored for trainer Dane Kobiskie, who haltered the 7-year-old turf specialist for $25,000 out of a winning effort at Gulfstream in April. Whisper Onthe Wind finished second going 1 1/16 miles under similar conditions four weeks ago at Gulfstream while swelling his earnings for the year to more than $141,000.
Galleon Mast exchanged decisions with Whisper Onthe Wind this summer but comes into the rematch idle since beaten a neck by Whisper Onthe Wind at Gulfstream on Aug. 11. Galleon Mast has worked steadily for the rubber match between the two rivals, having posted five works, including a bullet five-eighths at Gulfstream, since Sept. 2.
Kokomo Wildcat, Fair Prospect, and Geh Schnell also figure to garner plenty of support if the headliner stays on grass. Wild Good and Rasta Rant, the two main-track-only entrants, would benefit if management switches the race to dirt.
