Whisper to Me has back class

Ron Gierkink|Jun 04, 2008

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Stakes winner Whisper to Me will attempt to clear her third allowance condition in Friday's fourth race at Woodbine, a one-mile optional $80,000 claimer for fillies and mares on the grass.

Whisper to Me, a 4-year-old trained by Malcolm Pierce, won her maiden over this expansive turf course in her only start at 2. She garnered her first black type while finishing a troubled third here last June in the Alywow Stakes, and was shipped to trainer Donnie Von Hemel in July.

For Von Hemel, Whisper to Me won the $75,450 Lyrique Stakes at 1 1/16 miles last August at Louisiana Downs. She subsequently finished fourth and fifth in two other stakes, and then rejoined Pierce's string this year after getting some time off.

In her first Polytrack start in a seven-furlong optional claimer here April 26, Whisper to Me finished a flat fourth in a race that should set her up beautifully for Friday's route.

Patrick Husbands picks up the mount on Whisper to Me. Husbands and Pierce are a combined 4 for 12 at the meeting.

Name in Lights scored twice here on the turf last year, after trainer Nick Gonzalez claimed her for $32,000 at Gulfstream.

Name in Lights would prefer less ground than a mile, but her comeback on the Polytrack was adequate, and she should be a speed threat under Eurico Rosa Da Silva.

Sudsy Baby is winless since she captured a second-level allowance on the dirt nearly two years ago. She 0 for 6 on grass but managed to finish fourth in the River Memories Stakes over yielding ground here in October.

Tyler Pizarro will ride Sudsy Baby for trainer Roger Attfield, who is 2 for 8 in grass races at the meeting.

Be Envied finished far back when she returned from an extended layoff in a key April 10 allowance at Keeneland. Both of her turf wins came here early in her career.

Humble Janet, the runner-up in last year's Grade 3 Iowa Oaks, has never tried the grass, but her sire's offspring have posted solid numbers on that surface.
