It was Weyburn’s first work since he finished fourth in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial on April 3 at Aqueduct.
“I thought he looked good,” trainer Jimmy Jerkens said. “We got in a bind a little bit. He had a little bit of a localized hind leg infection we had to clear up before we worked him.”
Jerkens is hoping to use the Peter Pan as a stepping-stone to the Belmont Stakes here June 5.
Meanwhile, Jerkens is pointing Rocketry to the $100,000 Flat Out Stakes going 1 3/8 miles on April 30. A multiple graded stakes-winning 7-year-old, Rocketry finished second in the 2019 Flat Out and fourth in the race last year. He hasn’t run since winning the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Stakes on Nov. 6 at Keeneland .
“He grew a big coat when he went to the farm,” Jerkens said. “His coat still hasn’t gotten rich looking like you want yet, like it did in the fall, but he seems to be doing good.”
◗ Mr. Buff continues to train forwardly for an anticipated start in the Grade 3, $200,000 Westchester Stakes on May 1. On Wednesday, Mr. Buff worked a half-mile in 49.07 over the Belmont main track. He started out about three lengths behind Quickflash and finished on even terms through a sub-24-second final quarter.
