Wet track would enhance Praetereo's chances in allowance feature

Two months ago, Praetereo shipped from New York to the Mid-Atlantic region to race two turns over a sloppy track and produced a career-best 102 Beyer Speed Figure. He is likely to catch similar wet conditions Monday when he again travels to a Mid-Atlantic track for a two-turn race.
The 6-year-old Praetereo is among three horses in a field of eight entered for the $40,000 tag in a mile-and-70-yard race that is also open to third-level allowance runners at Parx Racing. The $47,000 feature goes as the eighth race at 3:34 p.m. Eastern.
Although winless in eight starts this season, Praetereo is dangerous while taking a subtle but distinct class drop and stretching out for high-percentage trainer David Jacobson. A forecast that calls for rain would also benefit Praetereo, who missed by a nose racing this same distance three starts ago in the Governor’s Day Stakes at Delaware Park.
Muddy or sloppy conditions, however, would appear to hurt the chances of 5-2 morning-line favorite Crushing. The last time he raced on a wet surface, in December 2012, Crushing was beaten 13 lengths as the 8-5 favorite.
Race 8
KEY CONTENDERS
Praetereo (Last 3 Beyers: 93-80-102)
Comes back 15 days after finishing second sprinting six furlongs in a third-level optional $80,000 claimer at Aqueduct. Jacobson shows a 21-for-68 record (31 percent) record with horses who finished in the money back within 15 days while stretching out from sprints to routes.
Crushing (Last 3 Beyers: 85-78-91)
It’s difficult to toss any horse shipping to Parx for Chad Brown, who is 16 for 22 at the suburban Philadelphia track this season. But if the track is wet, beware because Crushing is 0 for 5 on off tracks and got drubbed by 13 lengths as the favorite at Parx the last time he ran in the slop.
Sailor’s Revenge (Last 3 Beyers: 70-74-88)
Returns to the main track while making his first start off a $25,000 claim for Kathleen DeMasi, who is 6 for 22 (27 percent) with route runners making their first start following a claim and a break of 31 to 60 days. Put together back-to-back Beyers of 101 when fresh earlier this year, including a narrow defeat in the $200,000 Mountainview at Penn National. Chances far exceed 10-1 morning-line odds.
Bowman’s Beast (Last 3 Beyers: 66-83-94)
The last time he raced two turns over a wet track, he posted a career-best 94 Beyer winning a second-level optional $25,000 claimer at Parx in May 2013. Stretches out from seven furlongs 14 days after a dull performance for trainer Patricia Farro, who hits at an 18-percent clip (10 for 55) with stretch-outs back in two weeks or less.
