Westsideclyde overtakes The Great Face

AUBURN, Wash. - Westsideclyde overtook the pacesetting The Great Face turning for home and pulled away to a 2 1/2-length victory in Monday's $45,000 FSN Handicap at Emerald Downs.

Westsideclyde, who races for Linda Elledge and Dr. James Riedinger, covered the 6 1/2 furlongs under rider Ricky Frazier in 1:13.40, the second-fastest time for the distance ever registered at Emerald. The Great Face held second by a neck over the fast-finishing Norm's Nephew, while the two favorites, Starbird Road and Flamethrowintexan, finished seventh and eighth in the field of nine.

Westsideclyde, a 5-year-old son of Old Topper from the barn of trainer Craig Roberts, paid $14.20 to win as the distant third choice in the wagering. He earned $24,750 for his first stakes win, boosting his career bankroll to $82,289 from 6 wins in 11 starts.
