Weston possible for Los Alamitos Futurity following quick weekend work

Weston, the winner of the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar in August, is under consideration for Saturday’s Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity after a fast workout at Santa Anita over the weekend.
Weston worked a half-mile in 46.40 seconds on Saturday, the fastest of 68 works at the distance.
“He’s a really good work horse,” trainer and co-owner Ryan Hanson said.
The $75,000 Eddie Logan Stakes for 2-year-olds at a mile on turf at Santa Anita on Dec. 27 is another consideration for Weston, who was fifth of six in the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes at seven furlongs at Del Mar on Nov. 15.
Hanson co-owns Weston with Chris Drakos. They paid $7,000 for the gelding as a yearling. Weston has won 2 of 4 starts earned $152,000.

“If Chris is leaning one way, it’s the futurity,” Hanson said.
The $200,000 Los Alamitos Futurity at 1 1/16 miles will not have a large field. Red Flag, Uncle Boogie, and Spielberg, who were first, second, and fourth in the Bob Hope, are probable starters along with Petruchio, the winner of a maiden special weight race at a mile on turf at Del Mar on Oct. 31.
Red Flag worked five furlongs in 1:01.20 at Santa Anita on Sunday in company with a stablemate Bristol Bayou, a maiden.
“I thought Red Flag worked really well,” trainer John Shirreffs said.
Spielberg, purchased for $1 million as a yearling, worked six furlongs in 1:13.40 at Santa Anita on Sunday, and is likely to be trainer Bob Baffert’s lone runner in the Los Alamitos Futurity.
Life Is Good, a highly regarded colt trained by Baffert, will not race until the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting that begins on Dec. 26. Life Is Good won his debut in a maiden special weight race at 6 1/2 furlongs by 9 1/2 lengths at odds of 1-5 at Del Mar on Nov. 22. He earned a 91 Beyer Speed Figure
Saturday, Life Is Good worked six furlongs in 1:14 at Santa Anita on Saturday.
“We’ll wait for Santa Anita,” Baffert said. “I’m taking my time. We have to map something out for him.”
The Los Alamitos Futurity is the leading race on the final week of the Los Angeles County Fair meeting, which ends on Sunday.
