Western Fair: Friday 5/26 All-Stakes Pick 4 Analysis
?q=100)
Friday (May 26) is the biggest night of the year at The Raceway at Western Fair as it will host the C$150,000 Camluck Classic for older pacers as part of a stellar 12-race program that kicks off at 6:30 PM (EDT). On the wagering front, the track will offer a pair of $15,000 Guaranteed Pick 5s (Races 1 & 8) and two $10,000 Guaranteed Pick 4s (Races 2 & 9).
Below we'll take a look at the all-stakes late Pick 4 and included expanded analysis for the Camluck Classic for those looking to play deeper exotics like the Hi-5.
Race 9: $22,200 Ontario Sire Stakes Grassroots
(6) LADYCORONA is an intriguing shipper with plenty of form seeing if she can step up in company. Notice the trainer change here to Moreau and James MacDonald taking the call over #1. Bettor's Delight filly could be ready to shine in her second year of racing. (4) TWIN DELIGHT got an easy mile and finished up willingly in her first start of the year and dropped five seconds off her qualifier. She did well with this group last year and should show up in a big way.
Race 10: $22,200 Ontario Sire Stakes Grassroots
This is a tricky race because you have to decipher whether some of these will enjoy the smaller oval. (5) MOONSTRUCK sports some quick miles at Mohawk Park but has been getting caught late in the long stretch over there. Perhaps the track switch is just what she needs. (1) GLENBORO has good speed and past experience on the half to her credit; big threat to win. (6) SWEETEST BELLE has been a killer in two starts over the track. These are deeper waters but she might be up to the task.
Race 11: $50,000 Forest City Pace
(2) SO MUCH MORE is clearly the best horse in the field (notice her recent starts have been against the boys at Mohawk) and it's really going to come down to how she handles the half-mile track. She's had some experience on it in the past but it has been a long time since her last win (June 2019). Our back-up plan in case she doesn't enjoy the tighter turns is (3) RAPTORS WON. Four-year-old has some half-mile experience to her credit and might even be able to gun to the front here. She lacks the class of others but trip is more important on a smaller track.
Race 12: $150,000 Camluck Classic
(1) THIS IS THE PLAN is certainly at home on a half-mile track. Last week's mile at The Meadowlands was simply a tune-up and Wrenn sees fit to cross the border from Ohio to take the drive. Expect to see big early speed from the cones and a big effort. (4) COVERED BRIDGE is another with plenty of small-track experience and he's razor sharp as well. If Stratton gets him any type of reasonable trip this guy will be a handful. Beyond the Pick 4 ticket, (2) WHICHWAYTOTHEBEACH comes to London with fine form and enough speed to secure position on the smaller oval. (7) IDEALSOMEMAGIC A was a bit flat in the Borgata and unlucky in the Wizard Invite last time. The qualifier at Yonkers says he's ready if McNair can figure out a decent trip from the outside. (5) AMERICAN HISTORY could take plenty of money off back-to-back wins at Mohawk, but I caution that he's never been a favorite of mine on the half, despite the fact that he is a co-record holder at Yonkers.
.20 Pick-4 Ticket: 4,6 / 1,5,6 / 2,3 / 1,4 = $4.80
