Well-bred statebreds at Saratoga sale

Several top New York families are in the pedigrees of the 19 registered statebreds cataloged to the annual Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale Tuesday and Wednesday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

First through the ring early Tuesday night will be a filly from the consignment of Denali Stud as agent for Gallagher's Stud. She is by champion sprinter Aldebaran out of Appealing Kris, by Kris S. Selling as Hip No. 4, she is a half-sister to New York-bred Rahys' Appeal, winner of the Ticonderoga Handicap.

Eaton Sales, as agent, is selling a full sister to Go Rockin' Robin, winner of the Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes, as Hip No. 50. The statebred is by Distorted Humor-Flag Support, by Personal Flag.

Taylor Made Sales Agency, as agent, is the consignor of a daughter of Smoke Glacken who is a half-sister to two grade stakes-winning New York-breds. Selling as Hip No. 70, she is out of the Greinton mare Greening, who has also produced Turnofthecentury, winner of the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame Stakes, and Best Friend Stro, winner of the Grade 3 Busher Stakes. Greening is also the dam of Noteasybeingreen, a son of deceased state sire Distinctive Pro who placed in the Grade 2 Cowdin Stakes.

A little later in the opening session, Taylor Made Sales Agency, as agent, sends out a colt by Distorted Humor as Hip No. 74. The colt is out of I Love New York, a Deputy Minister mare who is a half-sister to New York-breds Friends Lake, who won the Grade 1 Florida Derby, and Seeking the Ante, who won the Grade 2 Nassau County Breeders' Cup.

On Wednesday evening, Eaton Sales, as agent, is the consignor of a Cherokee Run colt as Hip No. 176. The colt is out of With a Wink, a Clever Trick mare who has produced Jena Jena, winner of the Iroquois Stakes, and Up Like Thunder, winner of the Bertram F. Bongard Stakes. With a Wink, winner of the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap, is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Raja's Shark.

Sugar Maple Farm, with Eaton Sales as agent, has a New York-bred yearling with a very attractive pedigree selling as Hip No. 40. She is by Fusaichi Pegasus out of Do Mountain Doo, by Mountain Cat, who is a half-sister to the dam of champion and millionaire Banshee Breeze, winner of the Alabama Stakes and Coaching Club American Oaks.

At the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale, 10 New York-breds grossed $3.3 million. The $330,000 average was slightly above the sale average of $324,417. The contingent was topped by a Giant's Causeway colt at $1.1 million.

Uncle Camie to stand at Foggy Bottom

Uncle Camie, a New York-bred graded stakes winner, will enter stud for the 2007 breeding season at Gary and Beverly Least's Foggy Bottom Farm in Geneseo, N.Y.

A homebred owned by Carmine Telesca and John and Marilyn Guerrara, Uncle Camie earned $321,442 with a record of 8-3-2 in 22 starts. His biggest victory came in the Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap in 2005 at Belmont Park, in which he stopped he finished six furlongs in 1:08.67.

A 6-year-old, Uncle Camie is a son of former New York stallion Abaginone, who is also the sire of New York-bred Acey Deucey, winner of the Grade 1 Prioress Stakes. By Devil's Bag, Abaginone won seven of 10 starts, including the Potrero Grande Breeders' Cup and Los Angeles Handicap, both Grade 3 events. He also scored a win over Eclipse Award champion sprinter Lit de Justice. Abaginone is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Cara Rafaela, the dam of Preakness and Jim Dandy stakes winner Bernardini.

Uncle Camie is out of the New York-bred mare Final Style, by Smart Style, whose third dam is The Bride, a full sister to Secretariat.

"What I like about having him here is the fact he has true speed," said Gary Least II of Foggy Bottom Farm. "A lot of the ones we've had liked a route of ground. This is a speed horse, and that's going to go well here. I really look forward to breeding to a speed horse and taking them to Finger Lakes."

Foggy Bottom Farm also stands Badge, by Air Forbes Won; Crusader Sword, by Damascus; Liberatedbyforce, by Conquistador Cielo; Manlove, by Mr. Prospector; and Slice of Reality, by Proper Reality.
