Welder wins off-the-turf Remington Park Sprint

Welder won the sixth stakes race of his career Friday night in the off-the-turf Remington Park Sprint, darting home by a length over Serengeti. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back to Hunter’s Humor in third.
The $70,000 Remington Park Sprint was for 3-year-olds and up bred in Oklahoma. The race was originally scheduled for five-eighths on the grass but was run on a sloppy, sealed track. The distance was unchanged but not the field as Perfect to Please, Cole Camp, and Alpha and Omega were scratched Friday.
Welder ($3.20) stalked Serengeti through an opening quarter in 22.03 seconds and a half-mile in 44.84 before going on to cover the distance in 56.89. David Cabrera was aboard for trainer Theresa Luneack.
Welder is a son of The Visualiser who races for Ra-Max Farms. He has now won 12 of 20 starts and earned $416,151. Earlier this week, Ra-Max Farms bought a yearling half-brother to Welder at the Carter Sales Co. auction for a co-sales-topping price of $30,000. The colt is by Race Day.
