Welder wins third straight Silver Goblin Stakes in a romp

Welder made his 20th win in his home state of Oklahoma a memorable one Friday night, when he drew out by 11 lengths in the $70,000 Silver Goblin Stakes at Remington Park.
He was winning the 6 1/2-furlong race for Oklahoma-breds for the third year in a row, and the victory was his 14th career stakes win. It also was Welder's fourth straight win at the Remington meet.
The Silver Goblin was one of three statebred stakes on the card. Rowdy Yates ($2.40) was a 4 3/4-length winner of the $75,000 Don McNeill for 2-year-olds, and Machos Vision ($8.80) captured the fillies division, the $75,000 Slide Show.
Welder ($2.10) broke sharply in the Silver Goblin and engaged the rail-situated Quality Rocket, with the pair shuttling through an opening half-mile in 44.69 seconds. Welder shook his pace rival into the stretch and then separated himself from the field, going on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:16.03.
“It was just a breeze for him,” winning rider David Cabrera told publicity at Remington.
Welder has now won 11 races at Remington. His other nine Oklahoma wins have come at Will Rogers Downs near Tulsa. He resides on a farm near that track and ships in to race at Remington.
Theresa Luneack trains Welder for Ra-Max Farms.
Welder is a 6-year-old gelding by The Visualiser and was bred by the same Center Hills Farm operation that bred Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Kip Deville. He has now won 21 of 31 starts and earned $970,998.
Welder’s other wins at Remington this meet have come in an allowance, the $150,000 David M. Vance, and the $130,000 Oklahoma Classics Sprint. He was the track’s horse of the meet last year and also was the 2018 Oklahoma-bred of the year.
D Toz ran second in the Silver Goblin, while it was another length back in third to Gospel Cherokey.
Rowdy Yates won the third stakes race of his young career in the Don McNeill, when he stalked the leaders and then took over in the stretch. He covered the mile in 1:39.59. Last month, Rowdy Yates won the $100,000 Oklahoma Classics Juvenile at Remington and earlier this year captured the Ellis Park Juvenile. Richard Eramia was aboard Friday night for trainer Steve Asmussen. Rowdy Yates is a son of Morning Line owned by L and N Racing.
Machos Vision ($8.80) led throughout for a 2 3/4-length win over Diamonds N Spurs in the Slide Show, covering the mile in 1:42.61. Lori Keith was aboard for trainer Michael Biehler, who co-bred and co-owns Machos Vision with MBG LLC. The winner is a daughter of Pollard’s Vision.
