Welder ties Remington Park all-time win record

Welder tied the all-time win record at Remington Park on Saturday night when he won his 15th race at the Oklahoma City track in an allowance sprint. The millionaire and reigning Oklahoma-bred of the Year defeated open company for what was his 26th career victory from 38 starts.
He has earned $1,204,042.
Welder shares the record with Highland Ice, who died in November, and Elegant Exxactsy.
“I’m just honored to be able to train this animal,” an appreciative Theresa Luneack said in a post-race interview broadcast by Remington. “It’s been such a great ride.”
Luneack went on to say she believes the 7-year-old horse is “better than ever” and she looks forward to his campaign next year. Earlier this meet, she said plans are to race Welder at Oaklawn.

Welder ($3.40) was situated along the rail and dueled with Share the Upside through an opening quarter in 22.35 seconds and a half-mile in 45.01. Into the stretch, the eventual winner went on, scoring by three-quarters of a length over his pace rival. Welder covered six furlongs on a fast track in 1:09.79.
“He ran a huge race,” regular rider David Cabrera said in a post-race interview broadcast by Remington. “Once he turned for home, he kicked his gear in. He’s a tremendous animal.”
Ra-Max Farms owns Welder, who is a son of The Visualiser. He was bred by Center Hills Farm. Welder has won all four of his starts at the meet, including his turf debut in the Remington Park Turf Sprint.
Caldwell sitting at 999 wins
Danny Caldwell, a perennial leading owner at Remington Park, had a double on Saturday night’s card to move within one win of a milestone of 1,000 Thoroughbred victories as an owner. Caldwell’s next starters will come on the final two cards of the meet, Monday and Tuesday.
“I want to do it here,” he said. “This is my hometrack.”
Caldwell's first Thoroughbred wins came in 2007, according to records from Daily Racing Form. He has gone on to win multiple titles at Oaklawn Park, Prairie Meadows, and Remington.
“The credit goes to my team,” he said, expressing gratitude for the horses, trainers, jockeys, grooms, blacksmiths and others who contribute to the stable.
Caldwell also has raced Quarter Horses, and overall as an owner has won 1,105 races from 5,636 starts, according to records from Daily Racing Form. Those runners have earned a combined $21 million.
