Weisbord resigns from Breeders’ Cup board
Barry Weisbord, a part-owner of the technology company Trakus and the publisher of Thoroughbred Daily News, has resigned from the board of directors of the Breeders’ Cup, citing demands on his time, according to the organization.
Weisbord notified Breeders’ Cup officials on Tuesday morning about his decision to resign by letter, the Breeders’ Cup said. According to the Breeders’ Cup, the letter cited “the increasing need for me to travel extensively for Trakus around the world, and my desire to try to take in as much of my young daughter’s activities at home.”
Weisbord has been a director of the Breeders’ Cup since 2012, when he was elected by the sitting members to fill a vacant seat. He was re-elected in 2013 to a three-year term. He has been a member of the Breeders’ Cup since 2008.
During his time on the board, Weisbord had pressed the Breeders’ Cup to be more responsive to the needs of international horsemen, and he has been heavily involved in the event’s hospitality planning. Weisbord has been involved in several major horse-racing initiatives over the past two decades and has acted as a bloodstock agent.
“We will miss Barry’s creative energy and enthusiasm for our Championships, and wish him well in his current and future endeavors,” Breeders’ Cup chairman Will Farish said in a statement.
Trakus installs and operates horse-tracking technology systems at racetracks around the world. The company’s most prominent international customers are the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Meydan in Dubai, and the Singapore Turf Club.
