Weekend Hideaway stretches out for Commentator

Weekend Hideaway, a six-time stakes-winning sprinter, will attempt to stretch out to a mile in Monday’s $200,000 Commentator Stakes, one of six stakes on the 10-race Big Apple Showcase card for New York- breds at Belmont Park.
Weekend Hideaway returned from a four-month layoff to win the Affirmed Success Stakes going six furlongs on April 29.
“It’s stretching it a little bit,” trainer Phil Serpe said. “We freshened him up. He came back good. He seems to be moving forward, so for $200,000 we’ll take a shot.”
Weekend Hideaway will take on six rivals, including a trio from the barn of Rudy Rodriguez – Royal Posse, Drama King, and Sioux.
Quezon, winner of the Bouwerie Stakes on this program last year, heads a field of nine entered in the $200,000 Critical Eye Stakes for fillies and mares going a mile on dirt.
The trio of King Kreesa, Kharafa, and Lubash head a field of nine entered in the $125,000 Kingston Stakes for males going a mile on turf.
Stakes-winning sisters Distorted Beauty and Invading Humor are among the 15 horses entered in the $125,000 Mount Vernon for fillies and mares going a mile on turf. Only 12 will be permitted to run.
Pletcher entered the trio of Awesome Gent, Cards of Stone, and Sudden Surprise in the $125,000 Mike Lee for 3-year-old males going seven furlongs.
Rodriguez entered Frosty Margarita and Katniss the Victor among 10 3-year-old fillies in the $125,000 Bouwerie.
