Weekend Hideaway brings love of Spa into Forego

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Perhaps looking to take advantage of his colt’s affinity for Saratoga, trainer Phil Serpe entered Weekend Hideaway in Saturday’s Grade 1 Forego Stakes here.
Weekend Hideaway is coming back 15 days after winning the John Morrissey Stakes against New York-breds on Aug. 15, his third victory from four starts sprinting on dirt at Saratoga. In the Morrissey, he defeated Big Business by two lengths. Big Business was supplemented to the Forego by trainer David Jacobson, who won this race last year with Strapping Groom.
Weekend Hideaway drew post 9 in the Forego.
The horse to beat in the Forego is Clearly Now, the dominant winner of the Grade 3 Belmont Sprint Championship on July 5. Clearly Now drew post 8 in a field of 10 entered for the Forego, run at seven furlongs.
DRF FORMULATOR FACT: No. 8 Clearly Now. Trainer Brian Lynch is 3 for 8 with a $3.67 ROI over the past two years in dirt sprints following a layoff of between 31 and 60 days. Click for more details. – Mike Hogan

“We gave him a little time off between races,” said the Canadian-based trainer Brian Lynch, who has five wins from 14 runners on the New York Racing Association circuit this year. “He had an uninterrupted work schedule coming into it. He seems to be coming into it in good form. I’m very excited to be taking him down.”
The Forego is a Win and You’re In race for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita on Nov. 1.
Others entered in the Forego were Capo Bastone, Vyjack, Zee Bros, Sensational Slam, Palace, Falling Sky, and Confrontation.
DRF FORMULATOR FACT: No. 1 Capo Bastone. Trainer Todd Pletcher is 3 for 10 with a $6.28 ROI over the past five years taking blinkers off in graded stakes. Click for more details. – Mike Hogan
