Week starts with $1.1 million Golden Pick 6 jackpot carryover
Had 45-1 shot Peppered Pro won Monday’s final race at Golden Gate Fields instead of 20-1 shot Johnny Reb, there would be a happy bettor still counting a $1,230,919 Golden Pick 6 jackpot payoff. Since that didn’t happen, there is still more than $1 million on the line if someone has a single ticket with all six of Friday’s Golden Pick 6 winners.
Friday’s Golden Pick 6 jackpot opens with $1,137,828 in the pool. The jackpot is paid out only when there is a single ticket with all six winners, which hasn’t happened since Feb. 27. There will be a mandatory payout of the Golden Pick 6 on June 12, closing day of the meet.
The Golden Pick 6 begins with race 3 on Friday, with post time at 2:45 p.m. Pacific.
Race 3: Intaxication returned from a 14 1/2-month layoff to win for a $6,250 tag on May 14. Will he bounce in this six-furlong race as he takes a double jump up to $10,000 claiming? One thing is for sure: He loves Golden Gate Fields. He is is 3 for 5 with a second and a third here.
Van Lingle Mungo, sixth going a mile for a $16,000 tag last out, returns to the sprint game and should offer value. Condiment has been close at this level but is only 1 for 26 at Golden Gate.
Race 4: Lemon Drop Sis, Dynamic Mizzes K, and Blue’s Lucky Girl are likely to be the top three wagering choices in this 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight for fillies and mares on turf. Lemon Drop Sis was second in front of Blue’s Lucky Girl at a mile on turf here May 12. Dynamic Mizzes K never threatened in a one-mile maiden special weight race on turf at Santa Anita, but her 64 Beyer Speed Figure from that race makes her a contender here.
Race 5: Twink’s Boy Toy is favored in this maiden $25,000 claimer for 2-year-olds based on an okay try down south. First-timer Summer Jam has worked steadily and has a nice five-furlong drill for this 5 1/2-furlong race.
Race 6: Sky Forever will be gunning for her fourth straight win in this five-furlong starter allowance on the turf, but her last two came against easier in races switched from turf to the main track. Purims Faith could be the play here at 10-1 on the morning line. She ran evenly against better in her first start in two months, and she won at this level over the course last September.
Race 7: Stormin Belle might be a tepid choice in this one-mile, $3,200 claiming race for fillies and mares. Nellie Gail just beat similar at 34-1, including three of today’s rivals.
Race 8: Small Town Cop and Taelyns Prince are each coming off a second-place finish going into this first-level allowance for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Small Town Cop was beaten a head at this level going 1 1/8 miles on turf, while Taelyns Prince was beaten 1 1/4 lengths for a $20,000 tag in a race taken off the grass. He steps up off the claim by William E. Morey. He’s a Pepper returns to allowance company following a victory over the course in the starter-allowance ranks.
