Wednesday allowance part of $1.35 million-guaranteed Rainbow 6

Mike Welsch|Jan 04, 2021

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Wednesday’s main event will be decided under allowance conditions at a mile for a $47,000 purse. The race, for 4-year-olds and up, also will serve as the penultimate leg of the Rainbow 6 sequence, which offers a guaranteed $1.35 million jackpot.

Among the key contenders are Lookin At Roses, who outran his 47-1 odds when finishing third in the Claiming Crown Rapid Transit; Sounion, second under similar conditions at Churchill Downs in his last start; and Don Bourbon.

Lookin At Roses had a two-race winning streak snapped but posted a career-best 88 Beyer Speed Figure when finishing a wide-running third, beaten less than two lengths by winner Avant Garde, in the seven-furlong Rapid Transit on Dec. 5.

Sounion was beaten three-quarters of a length while racing on Lasix for the first time against similarly conditioned allowance company in his 3-year-old finale at Churchill Downs. He earned a career-best Beyer Figure of 87. Don Bourbon also earned a Beyer high of 87 in his last race. Racing with blinkers for the first time in that race, he contested the pace going 1 3/16 miles and tired to fourth on Nov. 8 at Churchill Downs.

Leading trainer Todd Pletcher will put the blinkers back on his graded stakes-tested Ashaar, who helps round out a field that also includes Mister Candy Ride, Target Tales, Palace Coup, Superfecto, and Summer Kid.
