Wedding Toast may get break

ELMONT, N.Y. – With five starts in the first five months and a week in 2015, Wedding Toast, the winner of the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Stakes on Saturday at Belmont Park, could get a little freshening.
Wedding Toast rolled to a five-length victory over defending 3-year-old champion filly Untapable in Saturday’s $1 million Phipps, her third win in five starts this year.
“We’ve run her often this year for us, so we might skip the next one and look for later,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said. “Obviously, point for the Breeders’ Cup and back up from there.”
Wedding Toast’s victory in the Phipps earned her an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Oct. 30 at Keeneland.
McLaughlin said he likely will run Wedding Toast two more times before the Breeders’ Cup. Those two races could include the Grade 1, $700,000 Personal Ensign at 1 1/8 miles or the Grade 1, $500,000 Ballerina at seven furlongs, both Aug. 29 at Saratoga, and then the Grade 1 Beldame at Belmont on Oct. 3.
Wedding Toast, who earned a 102 Beyer for her Phipps victory, is 4 for 5 at Belmont Park. She won her only start at Saratoga, a 2 1/2-length maiden win going 1 1/8 miles in July 2013.
