Weanlings to watch at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale
The broodmares and broodmare prospects assembled for Fasig-Tipton’s Kentucky fall selected mixed sale need no introduction.
This Nov. 7 sale is billed as the “Night of the Stars,” and this year’s catalog again lives up to that billing, with major names including Eclipse Award champions Goodnight Olive, Nest, and Wonder Wheel; Canadian champions Moira and Munnyfor Ro; Argentinian champions Didia and Dona Bruja; Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Oath; Breeders’ Cup winner Pizza Bianca; and a host of other Grade/Group 1 winners.
Among the established broodmares in the sale, the standouts include Queen Caroline, the dam of champion Forte; Lady Shipman, dam of two-time Breeders’ Cup winner Golden Pal; and the dams of Grade 1 winners Angel of Empire, Blazing Sevens, Bright Future, Candied, Defining Purpose, Muth, Saudi Crown, Slow Down Andy, Taiba, and Up to the Mark. If those accomplishments weren’t enough already, several of these families could get major updates from the Breeders’ Cup a few days prior.
But for those looking for future stars, the “Night of the Stars” has something for them, too. The Fasig-Tipton sale, in a format it adopted several years ago, begins with a selection of just more than 130 weanlings before moving into the broodmares and prospects. Because this is a highly selective single-session sale, the weanlings chosen for the catalog must possess superior pedigrees and solid conformation, even at this early stage.
Before the youngsters arrive on the sale grounds during the first week of November for their conformation and potential athleticism to be analyzed, here is a short list of those who, on paper, bring the most sparkling pedigrees. This list of horses to watch accounts for catalog updates and sale outs through Nov. 6.
