We Can Be Heroes should get good pace setup in Wednesday feature

With plenty of speed to run at, We Can Be Heroes could be the winner of what appears to be a wide-open $12,500 claiming race for 3-year-olds and up that headlines an eight-race card at Northlands Park on Wednesday evening. The six-furlong sprint drew nine horses, and there could be a cavalry charge for the lead. Post time for the first race is 6:30 p.m. Mountain.
Racing for trainer Darcy Hawkes, We Can Be Heroes was a fast-closing third while going 6 1/2 furlongs at this level with Scott Williams aboard Sept. 1. They should be winging it early in this spot, and he could pick up the pieces from a stalking position with Williams retaining the mount.
We Can Be Heroes won three straight $8,000 claiming sprints for leading trainer Greg Tracy before being claimed by Hawkes out of his last win Aug. 15. Tracy, acting on behalf of Smokin Guns Stable and Herman Widenmaier, took him right back for $12,500 in his last start. Smokin Guns Stable had owned him before the horse was claimed by Hawkes.
KEY CONTENDERS
We Can Be Heroes (Last 3 Beyers: 65-73-64)
◗ He was on a roll before his strong move came a bit too late in his most recent race. There should be speed coming back to him, and if Williams can keep him in striking range early, he should be right there.
DRF FORMULATOR FACT: Over the past four years, Williams has won with 41 percent of his mounts for Tracy at all tracks, including 44 percent at Northlands.

Swiss Idol (Last 3 Beyers: 55-68-43)
◗ He rallied to win at this distance and at this level two starts back and then got stuck behind a slow pace when he jumped up to $17,500 in his latest. He should appreciate the shape of the race and is trained by Canadian Hall of Fame trainer Red Smith.
Espresso Springs (Last 3 Beyers: 36-64-29)
◗ As evidenced by his last three Beyer Speed Figures, he isn’t the most consistent horse around. Nonetheless, he has good speed, drew the rail, and will be ridden by leading rider Rico Walcott.
Unquiet (Last 3 Beyers: 65-58-75)
◗ Trained by Dale Greenwood, he forced the issue before tiring to finish fourth in the same race that We Can Be Heroes exits. He likes to be involved early, but he can stalk, and he could get a nice trip sitting just off what figures to be a hotly contested duel between Espresso Springs and Kingoftherockies. Kilohana also figures to be pressing the issue early.
