Waymore's Blues upsets Pepsi Cola

Jeff Taylor|Jan 26, 2009

Waymore's Blues got the jump on odds-on favorite Lefty Who turning for home in Saturday's $125,000 Pepsi Cola Handicap at Sunland Park and beat him by a nose. The loss was the first for Lefty Who in six starts. Bewild Hennessy finished 3 1/2 lengths behind the top two in third, followed by Ruff Dome in the six-furlong affair for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds.

Trained by Chris Hartman and ridden by Ken Tohill, Waymore's Blues ($41.40) won for third time in eight starts and avenged three previous defeats at the hands of Lefty Who in 2008. The son of Precocity covered the six furlongs in a quick 1:09.73 over a fast strip. The winner's share of $75,000 increased his career earnings to over $181,000.
