Waupaca best in Barksdale Handicap

BOSSIER CITY, LA. - Controlling the pace throughout, Waupaca ran his local turf record to a perfect four-for-four in winning Monday's Barksdale Handicap. Storybook Kid outfinished Sea Dub for the place, two lengths back, while Crowned King reported home fourth.

Rating kindly for Corey Lanerie, Waupaca set leisurely fractions of :24.55 and :48.68 before picking up the pace into the second turn. After a six furlong split in 1:12.95 and the winner holding a daylight advantage turning for home, the race was then for second. The final time for the one mile turf affair was 1:36.25 over firm going that was softened a bit by overnight rain.
