Watch out for City of Weston's late kick

Some of the better older sprinters in south Florida will be getting together Wednesday at Gulfstream Park West when they compete for a $44,000 purse in the feature race, a six-furlong allowance with wide-open conditions.
City of Weston, trained by Antonio Sano, was assigned post 1 and will be ridden for the fifth straight time by Manny Cruz. They face five others in the sixth of 10 races.
A Florida-bred colt, City of Weston has amassed more than $440,000 in earnings as a high-class, late-running sprinter. There’s ample speed to facilitate his kick, with Risk Factor, Dreaming of Neno, and I’m Steppin’ It Up all liable to vie for early command.
First post Wednesday is 1:05 p.m. Eastern, with the feature, the second leg in the Rainbow 6 jackpot wager (races 5-10), set for 3:41. One other allowance (race 9) also is on tap. The last race is scheduled for 5:49.
Gulfstream West, the former Calder facility located in the northwestern Miami area, has begun a new pick 10 jackpot wager, but it will be available only on Monday cards through Nov. 17.
KEY CONTENDERS
City of Weston (Last 3 Beyers: 94-90-89)
◗ Gray son of Holy Bull has been away since coming through as the favorite in a similar race Aug. 15 at Gulfstream Park, but apparently his connections only have been looking for the right spot, because the colt has posted five workouts at Gulfstream West in the interim.
Dreaming of Neno (Last 3 Beyers: 94-87-89)
◗ A winner in three of his last five outings, he can go to the front or sit right off the pace.
◗ His owner-trainer team of Frank Calabrese and Mike Petro has started out this meet in good form with seven firsts or seconds from 11 starts.
I’m Steppin’ It Up (Last 3 Beyers: 93-79-99)
◗ A speed demon in longer races, he is shortening up for this, so it’ll be interesting to see how that front-running style translates to this six-furlong contest.
◗ He has competed in stakes in three of his last five starts.
Grande Shores (Last 3 Beyers: 93-93-92)
◗ Second as the favorite to Dreaming of Neno in their last encounter nearly six weeks ago, he’s more favorably drawn in the outside post this time while getting top jockey Edgard Zayas back in the saddle.
