Washington Cup Juvenile stakes go to Unmachable, Windy Point

The $50,000 Washington Cup Juvenile Colts and Geldings appeared to be wide-open race on paper and it was proven so when first-time starter Unmachable came from last to win the 6 1/2-furlong dash at Emerald Downs Sunday. He paid $29.20.
Ridden by Alex Anaya, Unmachable trailed the field early and had one horse beat when Code Charlie posted a 44.26-second half-mile time. He started to roll while going five wide around the turn and moved farther out coming into the stretch. He was passing horses while drifting in before Anaya straightened him out approaching the sixteenth pole. He drew off late to edge Love the Vino by 1 1/4 lengths Love the Vino rallied from well back to finish second. Forth Smooches came from midpack to finish third.
The final time over a track rated wet-fast was 1:17.62.
“He got into the bit at the three-eighths pole and I just kept him out of trouble,” said Anya.

Windy Point was impressive in her front-running win in the $50,000 Washington Cup Juvenile Filly. She paid $4.80 for her 3 1/2-length victory over second-choice You Go Girl in the 6 1/2-furlong race.
She broke alertly with Juan Guiterrez aboard, dueled with Miss Prospector through a fast half-mile in 44.84 seconds, opened up a clear lead turning for home, and drew off to win convincingly. You Go Girl, who came from a stalking position, never looked like a serious threat to the winner. Discreet Demons was last early before rallying to finish third.
The final time was 1:18.34.
