Warrior's Pride stays unbeaten on turf in Umphrey

Warrior’s Pride remained perfect on turf while running far and away the race of his life to upset the $100,000 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint in wire-to-wire fashion for trainer Antonio Cioffi on Sunday.
Warrior’s Pride, the only 3-year-old in the Umphrey field, had captured his grass debut using a similar modus operandi in the Texas Glitter in spring.

Emisael Jaramillo rode Warrior’s Pride on Sunday. Warrior’s Pride is owned by his breeder, Just for Fun Stable.
Cioffi said it meant a lot to him to win a race named in honor of Umphrey, the late and beloved Calder Race Course and Gulfstream Park racing secretary.
“I am very happy and proud to win this race, because when I came into this country, Bob Umphrey helped me so much,” said the Italian-born Cioffi, who emigrated from Venezuela to the U.S. in 2001.
