Warren’s Veneda sharpens for Great Lady M.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Warren’s Veneda wants to do more. She wants to train, and she wants to race. Trainer Craig Lewis will oblige.
Only 10 days after a solid runner-up finish to Beholder in the Grade 3 Adoration Stakes, Warren’s Veneda worked a snappy five furlongs Tuesday at Santa Anita in 58.80 seconds and will wheel back July 11 in a sprint stakes at Los Alamitos.
“She loves to train, and she loves to run,” Lewis said. “She seems to be able to do more than I want her to do. She’s been able to take a lot of hard races and bounce out very well.”
Warren’s Veneda bounced out of her recent start so well that Lewis will run her back in a $200,000 sprint to prep for a $300,000 route three weeks later. Lewis will use the 6 1/2-furlong, Grade 2 Great Lady M. Stakes on July 11 at Los Alamitos as a bridge race for a rematch with Beholder in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch on Aug. 1 at Del Mar.
“I’d have to work her four times before the Hirsch. Why not give her a serious workout and maybe get paid?” Lewis said, referring to the Great Lady M. “It might be too short, but it might be a good work, and she might get paid.”
Warren’s Veneda has won 8 of 24 starts and $883,612. Early this season, she won three straight stakes races, including the Grade 1 Santa Margarita. In her most recent start June 13, she finished 1 1/4 lengths behind Beholder.
