Warren injured in training mishap

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Jockey Ron Warren Jr. suffered a badly bruised right foot during a Sunday workout and took off his mounts.

X-rays at San Mateo Hospital showed no fractures, but the 39-year-old Warren was on crutches when he left the hospital.

A horse Warren was preparing to work from the gate broke through the gate, and Warren was unseated. The horse then backed up and stepped on him.

Warren, who was second at both the 2002-2003 Golden Gate Fields meeting and the 2003 Bay Meadows spring meeting, was not sure how much time he would miss.
