ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Fresh off a Grade 2 score at Santa Anita, the favored Warming doubled up on Saturday at Woodbine in the Grade 2, $202,000 Dance Smartly for fillies and mares.
There was no speed on paper in the 1 1/16-mile main turf route, and Proctor Street inherited the lead with Eponine tracking her all the way.
Warming saved ground in mid-pack on the turn before Fraser Aebly angled her wide for the stretch run. She rallied stoutly and mowed down Proctor Street in deep stretch to prevail in a time of 1:43.78.
Longshot Power of Destiny caught Proctor Street late to secure second by three-quarters of a length. Elysian Field, Eponine, Ozara, and Pin Up Betty completed the order of finish.
Winning trainer Graham Motion’s assistant, Ian Wilson, gave Aebly a leg up on Warming, a daughter of Global Campaign.
“Me and assistant Ian talked before the race and we were hoping they would go a little quicker,” Aebly said. “She just traveled pretty comfortable in behind. The way she was traveling for me down the backside, I wasn’t worried at all. She definitely has a very good turn of foot. As soon as I asked her at the head of the lane and found a seam, she kicked very hard for me. It was very nice to see.”
Warming, who was coming off a victory in the Yellow Ribbon, paid $6.70 and earned $200,000 for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners.
