There is no obvious feature race at Gulfstream Park on Friday. However, betting opportunities abound in mostly competitive events, and the second and third races make it worthwhile to arrive early for the nine-race card, which begins at 12:40 p.m. Eastern. Race 2 is the second 2-year-old race at the meet – the first was Thursday . Considering trainer Wesley Ward’s excellent record with first-time-starting juveniles – 27 percent winners the past five years – it makes sense to take a close look at Quiver of Fear. A daughter of Tale of the Cat, Quiver of Fear should be among the favorites in the 4 1/2-furlong dash on the main track. Bred by Ward, Quiver of Fear will be the fourth foal to race out of Aventure Love, who won her debut going 4 1/2 furlongs on turf in France. She compiled a solid 2-4-1 record from 8 starts in France, and after coming to North America she used her good speed to win a couple of conditioned allowance races at Saratoga and Keeneland for Ward. Aventure Love passed on her precociousness to her three previous foals to race. Joker On Jack won a maiden special weight race on dirt in his first start at Keeneland, full-brother Insanity It Seems romped in his unveiling in a maiden special weight race on turf at Monmouth Park last year, and though two-time sprint winner Lucky as a Seven did not win his debut, he did finish second. Quiver of Fear’s workouts at Payson Park do not jump off the page, but Insanity It Seems had average works going into his debut and he was able to set an honest pace on his way to an easy victory. :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Available every race day.  Quiver of Fear will break from post 4 with Emisael Jaramillo up. Reaper has been working nicely for trainer Juan Alvarado. The Florida-bred son of Brethren will break from post 2 with Paco Lopez aboard. Zaino, trained by Enrique Amado, is by first crop sire Vino Rosso, who won his debut prior to becoming a two-time Grade 1 winner with over $4.8 million in earnings. In the third race, the Jose D’Angelo-trained Kitty Quick and Hihellohowareyou look like the main players in a first-level allowance race for Florida-bred 3-year-old fillies that carries a $50,000 claiming option. The mile and 70-yard Tapeta race drew seven horses. In her last start, Kitty Quick won an open first-level allowance race that carried a $75,000 claiming option Dec. 16. The runner-up and third-place finisher in the one-mile turf race came back to win their next start. D’Angelo was acting on behalf of Leon King Stable Corp. and Pro Racing Stable when he claimed the daughter of Adios Charlie for $75,000. Kitty Quick could be vulnerable running on Tapeta the first time while making her first start coming off a layoff going a middle distance. Hihellohowareyou could take a big step forward after being the runner-up going this distance while running on Tapeta for the first time in a first-level allowance race for Florida-bred 3-year-old fillies March 12. The race was the first route attempt for the daughter of Awesome Slew. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
