Ward ships in Chasing Artie for My Frenchman

One current Wesley Ward-trained turf sprinter meets a former Ward charge in the $75,000 My Frenchman Stakes, the Sunday feature and last of 11 races at Monmouth.
Ward used to train Fauci, a recent Monmouth allowance race winner for trainer Phil Antonacci who runs in the My Frenchman. At Keeneland this past April, in the Palisades Turf Sprint, Fauci was no match for Chasing Artie, whom Ward ships in for the My Frenchman.
Carded for 5 1/2 furlongs on turf and restricted to 3-year-olds, the My Frenchman drew a solid field of eight, but Chasing Artie should be solidly and deservedly favored. A homebred owned by Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey, Chasing Artie lost a maiden earlier this year for a mere $15,000 claiming tag at Turfway Park before being moved to grass. On turf, he won a maiden race at Gulfstream and rallied furiously to win going away at Keeneland while racing over 5 1/2 furlongs. Chasing Artie started poorly from post 1 and finished fast when third June 20 in the Woodstock Stakes, contested over the Tapeta track surface at Woodbine.

Fauci, a very good 2-year-old turf sprinter in 2020, beat older horses in his Monmouth win and can improve off that performance. Momos won a Monmouth dirt race in his last start and can do better than his seventh-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint last fall at Keeneland.
