Ward keeping Breeders' Cup options open for Cambria

FRANKLIN, Ky. – Cambria, the 2-year-old filly who beat males Saturday in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint, came out of her race in good shape and is on course to start at the Breeders’ Cup. Wesley Ward, who trains the filly for Stonestreet Stables, said Cambria, who has only sprinted so far, is a possible runner in the Juvenile Turf Sprint or the Juvenile Fillies Turf, which would be her first race over a route of ground.
“We’ll huddle up with the Stonestreet team and see if we’re going to go five-eighths or a mile,” said Ward.
Cambria got a 66 Beyer Speed Figure. Ward also trains Four Wheel Drive, a sharp debut winner in a Colonial Downs turf stakes and a horse he is pointing to the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint.
Ms Bad Behavior could be First Lady bound
Ms Bad Behavior could get a shot in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes on Oct. 6 at Keeneland after winning the Ladies Turf here at Kentucky Downs on Saturday while making her first start since April.
Front-running Ms Bad Behavior won by 1 1/2 lengths and got a 95 Beyer for running one mile in 1:35.25. Ms Bad Behavior was pulled up in her pre-layoff start but no acute injury was diagnosed, and trainer Richard Baltas said the 4-year-old filly had benefited from a break.
“She’d been in the barn since she was a 2-year-old,” Baltas said. “She needed some time off.”
Baltas said his small string stays at Kentucky Downs until Sept. 12, when they move to Keeneland.
