War Like Goddess on target to try for repeat in Joe Hirsch Turf Classic

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – War Like Goddess, who was forced to miss the Grade 2 Flower Bowl earlier this month due to an illness, is on target to try for a repeat victory in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic next Saturday at Belmont Park.
On Friday, War Like Goddess worked a half-mile in 50.51 seconds over the Oklahoma dirt course.
“She looked good. She was anxious going off and galloped out good,” trainer Bill Mott said. “That’s normal for her. I could have worked her in company or worked her on the grass, but she does enough on the dirt and I’m somewhat convinced it keeps her more sound.”
War Like Goddess comes out of a runner-up finish in the Glens Falls Stakes on Aug. 3, where she was a bit rank early on after being sent out of the gate by jockey Joel Rosario. Mott said a decision has not yet been made on who will ride War Like Goddess in the Hirsch.
Cody’s Wish, third in the Grade 1 Whitney, was scheduled to work Saturday at Saratoga for a start in next Saturday’s Grade 2 Vosburgh.
