War Correspondent will not start in Arcadia Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. – Saturday’s $200,000 Arcadia Stakes for turf milers at Santa Anita Park will not include a runner from trainer Christophe Clement’s stable. Clement said on Wednesday that he hoped to send the 5-year-old War Correspondent, but that he was told on Tuesday that a flight to California had been canceled. War Correspondent will start in a stakes at Gulfstream Park in the coming weeks.
Clement said that Summer Front, the seven-time stakes winner who was fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita in November, is a candidate for the $400,000 Frank Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita on March 7.
Kaigun, the winner of the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar on Nov. 28, leads the candidates for the Arcadia Stakes, one of three graded stakes on Saturday’s program. The other leading races are the $300,000 Las Virgenes Stakes for 3-year-old fillies and the $200,000 Palos Verdes Stakes for sprinters.
