War Bridle wins Folklore

Jeff Taylor|Jul 29, 2006

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Taking command soon after the start, War Bridle withstood a stern challenge from Random Gold through most of the stretch to win Saturday's $75,000 Folklore Handicap at Lousiana Downs by a nose.

Nuttyboom finished 3 3/4 lengths behind the top two and was followed by Venomous. Top Commander was a late scratch.

Ridden by Jose Verenzuela, War Bridle ($27.40) was making his first start for new trainer Sam David in the Folklore as the Texas-bred made a rare appearance outside of his home state. He is a 4-year-old son of Commanchero who is owned by Jerry Durant and Bill Jordan. The win was his sixth from 15 career starts, and Saturday's payday increased his career bankroll to over $203,000.
