Trainer Brendan Walsh, who once worked in Dubai, won the $2.5 million United Arab Emirates Derby last spring with Plus Que Parfait, and Walsh would like to have another horse for this year’s Dubai World Cup undercard on March 28 at Meydan Racecourse. Whether he does or not is in the hands of the official handicapper in Dubai, who will determine the rating for Chaos Theory, who most recently finished a tough-luck second to Just Might in the Colonel Power Stakes on Feb. 15 at Fair Grounds. If they can, Chaos Theory’s connections might well run in the $2 million Al Quoz Sprint, a straight-course race over 1,200 meters on turf, but Chaos Theory might not be rated high enough to qualify for the Al Quoz, which is capped at 16 runners. “I don’t know if we’re rated high enough. If we get the invite, we’d consider going,” Walsh said. :: To stay up to date, follow us on: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter Chaos Theory never has run a bad race in seven turf-sprint starts and returned from a long layoff with a strong performance in the Colonel Power, a race he won in 2019. Just Might made a clear lead over an inside- and speed-biased grass course on Feb. 15 at Fair Grounds, and Chaos Theory, chasing as hard as he could, just failed to get up. Walsh also sent out Zofelle to a fifth-place finish Feb. 15 at Fair Grounds in the Al Stall Memorial Stakes, and Zofelle, facing older horses after winning the age-restricted Pago Hop in December, ran a much better race than her placing. Zofelle was caught very wide while accelerating past most of the field around the far turn and continued well away from the best part of the course through the homestretch. Zofelle, losing for the first time in four American starts, was beaten 2 1/2 lengths by rail-skimming winner She’sonthewarpath and was only a half-length out of second. Walsh said Zofelle had come out of the 1 1/16-mile Stall in good condition. There’s no set race for the filly, but Walsh said he’d strongly consider cutting her back to one mile based on Saturday’s performance.
