Walder eyes graded stakes for Come to Mischief, Maid On a Mission

Trainer Peter Walder could have graded stakes starters on two fronts Aug. 15. He said Come to Mischief is on deck for the Grade 2, $200,000 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga, while Maid On a Mission is possible for the Grade 1, $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park.
“I might need to clone myself,” said Walder.
Come to Mischief won the $125,000 My Dear Stakes in her career debut June 28 at Woodbine, and following the race, she was a private purchase by Loooch Racing Stables. She was shipped to Walder at Gulfstream Park and was to breeze Saturday for the Adirondack. Paco Lopez has the mount at Saratoga, said Walder, who was in the process of determining Come to Mischief’s traveling plans to New York.
“I might ship her up to Saratoga earlier than planned so I can get her settled in up there,” he said.
Come to Mischief was a six-length winner of the My Dear, a race in which she covered five furlongs in 57 seconds and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 82. She is a January foal by Into Mischief.
Maid On a Mission is another recent purchase to move into the Walder barn. She was a $102,000 buy at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky summer sale of select horses of racing age and will be racing for Loooch Stables and Aaron Yagoda.
“She’s a big, good-looking mare,” said Walder.
Maid On a Mission, who was Grade 3 placed last year at Churchill Downs, is a seven-time winner. She last raced June 6, contesting a quick pace in the Grade 3 Mint Julep Handicap at Churchill before finishing ninth. One start prior, Maid On a Mission was fifth in the track’s Grade 2 Distaff Turf Mile. She is a 6-year-old by Strategic Mission.
Sr. Quisqueyano nears return
Multiple stakes winner Sr. Quisqueyano has been on summer vacation but is due back to school soon. Walder said the horse is scheduled to return Sept. 1 to his Gulfstream stable. Sr. Quisqueyano has been based on a farm since finishing sixth as the favorite May 1 in the Grade 3, $200,000 Texas Mile at Lone Star Park. Earlier this year, he was edged by Commissioner when second by a neck in the Grade 3 Skip Away Stakes at Gulfstream, and he won the track’s $250,000 Sunshine Millions Classic.
“He’s out on the farm getting some Dr. Green,” Walder said of the grazing life for Sr. Quisqueyano. “He’s just enjoying being a horse. He loves it out there.”
Walder said the plan is to point Sr. Quisqueyano for a campaign at Gulfstream.
“He has an affinity for this racetrack,” he said. “He ran in some tough races this past winter and in the spring, and we figured we’d give him the summer off and point for a fall-winter campaign. We know he loves this track, and we know on his best day he can run with some really good horses.”
Sr. Quisqueyano is owned by Loooch Racing Stables.
◗ Tribal Drama, a son of Big Drama, will launch his career Sunday in the eighth race, a maiden special weight for 2-year-olds at five furlongs. David Fawkes trains Tribal Drama and also trained Big Drama, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint in 2010.
Donation, a son of Hard Spun, could go favored.
