There was a reason trainer Scott Becker wanted W W Hotshot back in his barn. Becker was W W Hotshot’s first trainer, lost him via a claim for $12,500 two summers ago, and claimed him back for $40,000 last August. W W Hotshot got a winter break, won a Fanduel Racing allowance in his 2024 debut, and on Sunday at Hawthorne was much the best in the $75,000 Work All Week Handicap, carrying his high weight of 124 pounds to a 2 1/4-length victory. Under Alexander Bendezu, W W Hotshot raced from second in this Illinois-bred six-furlong dirt sprint as his stablemate, Fast Jack, took a clear lead and set muddy-track fractions of 22.01 and 45.11. Fast Jack began fading past the three-sixteenths pole, W W Hotshot took over, and despite failing to change leads, never had an anxious moment. Richiesonaroll closed mildly for second, a half-length in front of Megan’s Honor. W W Hotshot clocked 1:09.37 and paid $4.60 as the defined favorite while running his wet-track mark to 4-3-0-0. Becker owns the horse in partnership with Scott Ritter. W W Hotshot is by Ghaaleb out of Triplehott, by City Zip. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
