Vyjack, Om to meet in Seabiscuit

DEL MAR, Calif. – Om will run, but Obviously won’t, so there will be no rematch of the 1-2 finishers from the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in the Grade 2, $200,000 Seabiscuit Handicap on Saturday at Del Mar.
Trainer Phil D’Amato on Wednesday said Obviously would skip the Seabiscuit, a 1 1/16-mile grass race, and be pointed to the Santa Anita winter meeting, which begins Dec. 26. D’Amato said he definitely would run Vyjack in the Seabiscuit, and he was pondering whether to run Midnight Storm as well. The other option for Midnight Storm – third most recently in the Breeders’ Cup Mile on turf – is the Grade 3, $100,000 Native Diver Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on dirt Sunday.
“I’m going to save Obviously for Santa Anita, and the other guys will get their break after this weekend,” D’Amato said.
Obviously just held off a fast-closing Om in the Turf Sprint on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita.
The Seabiscuit field also was expected to include A Red Tie Day, Ring Weekend, and What a View.
If Midnight Storm runs, he would be the highweight at 125 pounds. Vyjack was assigned 123, and Om 122.
Also Saturday, With Honors is scheduled to move back to the turf as part of a large field of 2-year-old fillies expected for the Grade 3, $100,000 Jimmy Durante Stakes at one mile.
With Honors won the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf here during the summer meeting but raced on dirt at Santa Anita in her two subsequent starts. She was second in the Grade 1 Chandelier on Oct. 1, then was ninth of 12 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Others expected for the Jimmy Durante include Beautiful Becca, Bella Luma, Defiant Honor, Happy Mesa, Journey Home, La Force, Miss Sugars, Partyinthepaddock, Simmy’s Temple, Tiburtina, and Yuvetsi.
