Vyack launches comeback in closing-day allowance

Sunday’s closing-day card at Aqueduct will consist of 10 races, including two divisions of $100,000 Stallion Stakes for progeny of New York-bred stallions.
But the highlight of the card may be the return of Vyjack, last year’s Gotham Stakes winner and third-place finisher in the Wood Memorial. Vyjack, who is running in a $68,000 fourth-level allowance going seven furlongs, is making his first start since a sixth-place finish in the $1 million Haskell Invitational last July at Monmouth.
Vyjack came out of that race with a severe bout of colic and later was diagnosed with several ulcers. He spent about seven months at the Fair Hill Training Center before returning to trainer Rudy Rodriguez’s barn in late March.
“He’s training very good. We’ve never had any issues with him except for the colic,” said Rodriguez. “I’m hoping to use this race to see if we can run in the Met Mile.”
The five-horse field includes Balance of Power and Royal Currier, both trained by David Jacobson, and Sensational Slam.
