Von Hemel duo get rematch

The $70,000 Cyclones Handicap, a 1 1/16-mile stakes for Iowa-breds at Prairie Meadows, looks like a rematch between the Kelly Von Hemel trainees Maya's Storm and Red Hot N Gold. The two met in the May 16 John Wayne over six furlongs at Prairie, with Maya's Storm gaining the upper hand in the last 40 yards to score by a half-length.

Red Hot N Gold cruised to victory in last year's Cyclones in what was his first attempt at a route distance. The 5-year-old gelded son of Gold Case has run well in 7 of his last 8 starts, with the lone exception being a dull effort when stepped up in class for Oaklawn's Grade 3 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap.

Tiger Lake closed with a rush in the John Wayne, missing second by a nose. He will try and duplicate that rally around two turns. Ridden by Joel Campbell, the Doug Anderson-trained Tiger Lake appears to have a chance at the upset.
