Voix du Nord heads French Derby
Voix du Nord is the only Group 1 winner among the field of 17 for the $1.4 million Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby), run over 1 1/2 miles on turf at Chantilly on Sunday.
Voix du Nord ended his juvenile year by taking the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud and won again at the highest level in the Prix Lupin at Longchamp last month.
He faces a number of strong opponents, most notably two unbeaten horses, Lord du Sud and Day Flight. Lord du Sud proved himself over this distance when he won the Group 2 Prix Hocquart at Longchamp three weeks ago. Day Flight has been supplemented at a cost of $75,000 following a 20-length victory in a stakes at York.
* Oujia Board, 7-2, scored a seven-length victory in Friday's English Oaks at Epsom. All Too Beautiful was second, followed by Punctilious.
