DEL MAR, Calif.- Big Book, a three-time winner who was graded stakes-placed last year, remained under evaluation on Sunday, a day after sustaining sesamoid injuries in a workout at Del Mar. Trainer Tim Yakteen said veterinarians were assessing whether Big Book could undergo an operation and be saved as a broodmare. “They haven’t decided what to do,” he said. Owned by George Krikorian, Big Book has won 3 of 7 starts and earned $141,640. By Mr. Big, Big Book was sixth in the Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 11. She won an optional claimer at Santa Anita in May. Last year, Big Book won the Fleet Treat Stakes for California-bred 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar, but later was disqualified from the prize money for a medication violation. She later finished second to the champion 3-year-old filly Stellar Wind in the Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes here last August.
