Vernon: Pink Chou Chou gets the green in New York Sire Stakes
?q=100)
Pink Chou Chou posted a 1:56 victory in Friday afternoon's $108,200 New York Sire Stakes event for 2-year-old trotting fillies at Vernon Downs.
With Todd McCarthy in the bike, Pink Chou Chou, the 4-5 favorite, cut an opening quarter in 29 seconds but then released pocket-pulling 15-1 shot Royal Mission (Scott Zeron) to the point before the 58 3/5 half. Royal Mission kept control to three-quarters in 1:27 2/5, but with Beautiful Sight (Tyler Buter) advancing first-over out of fourth, that sent Pink Chou Chou and McCarthy off the pylons just after that marker.
Beautiful Sight made a break before they turned for home, leaving Pink Chou Chou and Royal Mission to decide it, and Pink Chou Chou proved better in the final eighth, going by Royal Mission and winning by a length and a half. My Debt Collecter (Mark MacDonald) finished in the third position.
