A track record effort by gelding Dame Good Time and filly Winning Alliance improving her record to six-for-six this year transpired in Monday afternoon's New York Sire Stakes races for 3-year-olds at Vernon Downs.
Racing in the last of three $39,233 grouping for the males and after a downpour that left the track rated sloppy, Dame Good Time (Scott Zeron) hit the front at the 26 3/5 quarter, then yielded to sit in the pocket behind Devastate (Dexter Dunn) past the 56 1/5 half. After Devastate put three-quarters on the board in 1:23 3/5, Zeron swung Dame Good Time to the outside in the stretch, re-took the top, and held sway over a closing Sir Pinocchio (Jason Bartlett) to win by a length in 1:51 1/5, knocking three-fifths of a second off Pinkman's prior track record for a sophomore gelding trotter. Devastate ended up third.
Travis Alexander trains the winner, sired by Chapter Seven, for owner John Cummins. Dame Good Time won for the third time in his career, has banked $174,426 and paid $3.80 to win as the 4-5 choice.
Making her first appearance outside Canada, Winning Alliance took the second of two groupings for the fillies in 1:53 flat. Racing prior to the storms that hit the track and for a purse of $58,100, Winning Alliance led through stations of 27 4/5, 58 and 1:26 2/5 for driver Todd Ratchford, and a 26 3/5 sprint in the final panel got her to the wire half a length ahead of pocket-sitter Senorita Palema (Ake Svanstedt). Date Night Hanover (Dexter Dunn) closed well for third.
A daughter of Chapter Seven, Winning Alliance, who was bred by Little E LLC., was sent out by trainer Matt Bax for owners Bax Stable and Glengate Farms. She has an overall record of 7-0-2 from nine appearances, has pocketed $74,088 and returned $9.90 to win as the 7-2 third choice.
