Jiggy Jog S posted her second straight stakes victory in New York by capturing Saturday afternoon's $123,000 Dr. Harry M. Zweig Memorial for 3-year-old trotting fillies in 1:53 3/5. Coming off a tally in the New York New York Mile at Yonkers last Friday, Jiggy Jog S (Dexter Dunn) got away in third from post two and opted to sit in that position as Yanaba (Brian Sears) went to the point from post five and carved out opening-half fractions of 26 4/5 and 56 2/5. Cash Infusion (Yannick Gingras) got going first-up from sixth heading to the half, providing cover to Delilah Hanover (Todd McCarthy). With the two-wide group advancing on the final bend, Ake Svanstedt elected to pull Baptism out of the pocket, and she moved up to challenge Yanaba heading towards the 1:25 3/5 three-quarters, then forged her way into the lead in the upper part of the stretch. Baptism couldn't get any separation on the rest of the field after she took command, though, setting up a charge to the finish. In that fight to the wire, it looked like Jiggy Jog S was in deep water as Dunn moved outside and inside in search of room but couldn't find any. However, a seam finally opened up to the inside of Yanaba in deep stretch, and once she had clearance, Jiggy Jog S had a strong kick to go with it, driving past the other contenders and winning by a length and a half. Delilah Hanover turned her cover trip into a second-place result, and Baptism had to settle for third. Yanaba and Cash Infusion completed the top five. "She relaxed really good there, and obviously I was following two strong horses, so I took a chance," said Dunn about sitting in. "I thought I was in trouble to be honest. There was no run to the inside, and there was no run to the outside. We bided our time and got lucky getting some room later in the stretch. She really kicked hard and got the job done. Her turn of foot really won her the race." Ake Svanstedt trains Jiggy Jog S, a daughter of Walner bred by Vestmarka AB, for owner Jorgen Sparredal Inc. This was her fifth win from 16 lifetime starts, and she has now earned $410,556. She paid $4.00 to win as the even-money favorite. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Defending Dan Patch Award winner Venerable (David Miller) was relegated to racing in the $25,620 Zweig consolation due to her 2022 earnings not being high enough to get into the "main event," but she delivered a 1:52 2/5 victory in the contest. More Than Ever (Scott Zeron) chopped out the opening quarter in 28 seconds, but she would be overtaken by Lilbitalexis (Dexter Dunn) before the 57 second half-mile marker. Miller had Venerable out and on the move first-up from fourth going to that station, and she would become the third different leader early on the final bend. Once she had command, Venerable went on to hit three-quarters in 1:24 2/5, then used a 28 second last quarter to hold off Lilbitalexis by a length. Brickhouse Babe (Mark MacDonald) finished in third. Venerable, a Walner filly bred by Maumee River Stables, Black Creek Farm, Martin Schmucker, and Steve Stewart, is trained by Nifty Norman for owners David McDuffee, Mel Hartman, Paul Bordogna, and Steven Arnold. She has compiled a record of 11-1-1 from 15 appearances, pushed her bankroll to $1,072,048, and returned $2.80 to win as part of a 2-5 favored entry with Brickhouse Babe.
