Vernon: Five-bagger for Bartlett in NY Sire Stakes consolations
Driver Jason Bartlett was a force at Vernon Downs on Sunday night, winning five of the eight $40,000 New York Sire Stakes consolations for rookie and sophomores of both sexes and gaits. He also added a victory in an overnight race on the card to give him a total of six.
Bartlett won the first three consolations that were held, taking the 3-year-old filly trot with Gobi Princess in 1:54 1/5 for trainer Anette Lorentzon and owner Knutsson Trotting Inc., the 3-year-old filly pace with Heavens Challenge in 1:54 2/5 for trainer Chris Height and owners James Slendorn, Jeffrey Levine, and Joseph Cornacchia, and the 2-year-old colt and gelding pace with Genius Man in 1:52 2/5 for trainer Erv Miller and owners Ron Michelon and Daniel Plouffe.
After a sixth-place finish in the 2-year-old filly pace consolation that was won by Dragon Roll (Howard Parker/Chris Ryder, 1:53 3/5, owned by Craig Henderson, Robert Mondillo, and Lawrence Minowitz), Bartlett annexed with 3-year-old male trot consolation with Brady Bunch in 1:53 2/5 for trainer Erv Miller and owners Michael Anderson, Joe Faraldo, Kentuckiana Racing Stable, and Eddie Gran.
Bartlett came in seventh in the 3-year-old colt and gelding pace consolation that was won by Bro (Tyler Buter/Homer Hochstetler, 1:50 2/5, owned by Jay Hochstetler and Finkelberg Racing LLC.), but then picked up his final victory of the night in the 2-year-old colt and gelding trot with Discus Hanover in 1:57. Trainer David Dewhurst also co-owns Discus Hanover with Philip Hale.
No Mas Drama won the last consolation of the night, the 2-year-old filly trot, in 1:55 4/5 for co-owner/driver Joe Bongiorno, trainer Jenn Bongiorno, and co-owners J&T Silva Stables, LLC., Joe Di Scala Jr., and Eleven Star Stables.
